  • Broiler Feeds

The growth potential of meat producing broilers has grown tremendously over the last few decades that it is hardly believable today that a 2kg broiler took some 42 days to produce in the mid-1990s and yet, it can now be produced in about 35 days only. Such advances are attributable to advances in nutrition and genetic selection.
At Ecofeeds, we strive to remain at the sharp-end of nutritional sciences in order to allow meat type birds to grow optimally to the benefit of the farmer, financially, and to the consumer by providing a sound, wholesome and safe product to eat. Our well researched feeds are currently based on a 3-Phase feeding programme comprising of a Starter, Grower and Finisher. These feeds are available in Mash or Crumble/Pellet form. The latter promotes better feed utilization by minimizing wastage and promoting better digestibility. All our feeds are available in convenient 12.5, 25 and 50kg packages. To further meet the needs of our farmers, we make 2 distinct broiler feed ranges:

    1. The Standard Range comprising of Broiler Starter (21%CP), Broiler Grower (19%CP) and Broiler Finisher (18%CP).
    2. The Super Broiler Range comprising of Super Broiler Starter (23%CP), Broiler Grower (21.5%CP) and Broiler Finisher
    (19.9%CP).

The choice of which range to choose is dependent on the level of sophistication the production system is at. The advice from our professional technical advisers on these matters is always at hand. These feeds are fortified with Government approved growth promoters, enzymes and anti-mycotoxins. Because these feeds contain coccidiostats, they must NOT be fed to geese, turkeys and geese. Furthermore, using these feeds on mixed free-range chickens might impair layer performances.

    Feeding Programmes

Today’s broilers should be fed on the basis of feed consumed per phase as opposed to feeding on time-lines as in the past. Our well-considered feeding programme is as follows:

So, when the bird reaches 2kg liveweight by 35 days, the Feed Conversion Ratio is 1.65, a world standard today. This feeding programme applies to both the “Standard” and the “Super” Ranges.

    Concentrates

Ecofeeds is open to formulating complimentary concentrates designed to make maximal use of your home grown maize in order to improve profitability. It is important to note that these concentrates apply on a weight-basis: Thus our 41%CP Concentrate can be mixed at 2 parts Concentrate to 3 parts crushed maize, by weight, to make a 21%CP Standard Broiler Starter. Then, 1 part Concentrate mixed with 2 parts crushed maize will make a roughly 19%CP Standard Broiler Finisher. Please note that this becomes a 2-Phase feeding programme which, while taking a little longer to get to 2kg LW, will save you money because you are using you own maize. Other special concentrates can be made on request e.g. for those who have white sorghum or pearl millet at their disposal.
